Crazies (By:Tessa Johnstone)

I just got back from Midnight Madness.
Midnight Madness is basically an ‘enthusiasm rally’ where we all get

our crazy on and cheer for the guys and girls basketball team.
It was awesome.
Except, it ended around 11:45...
So, technically it should have been called Eleven Forty-five Madness...
However, that technicality did not seem to bother anyone else..
so, I just let it slide.

Here is a picture of us. If you take your time and look very closely you may be able to pick me out of the crowd.

You know you love my 99cent store mask...
and you know you wanna see more of it...
well, darlin, your wish is my command. BipitybopityVideo!

So, let's run this up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes it....

It is easy to get caught up in yourself in college. A trip to the caf, for example: You scan in, you grab your sturdy blue tray, you shuffle around the stations… a lil’ chicken here, a lil’ pasta there… you select and dispense a nice cool beverage… bam - napkins, fork, knife, and on that rare occasion, a spoon… you throw on a delectable dessert… and then… it happens. You know what I mean -- for a brief moment, the world stops and stares, the spot light glares upon you, your eyes strain, your heart beats, your brow sweats as you struggle to locate SOMEONE YOU KNOW. Anyone.... a mere acquaintance will do.... just give me someone to sit with!! Don’t pretend you haven’t felt it, even if it was for the briefest of moments.

My point, yes I do have a point, is this… we should not allow self-centeredness to limit us. Every time we are deciding where to sit in the caf, we have the opportunity to expand our circle of influence - but how many times do we simply do what feels most comfortable and sit with friends?

I’ve noticed that those who have the most satisfying college experience tend to be those who are not focused on having a satisfying college experience; in other words, those who are not focused on themselves.

It is naive to think that our time at CBU is simply preparation for the ministry that we will be doing later when we are graduated and released. The reality is that there is ministry to be done here, people need God here. We should be conscious of this every day. It should affect the way we spend our time, the way we approach our relationships, and, yes, even the way we do lunch in the caf.

... just putting it out on the stoop to see if the cat licks it up.
